Bretforton is an historic, rural village in Worcestershire. Lying 4.4 miles east of Evesham, it is perhaps most famous for being the location of The Fleece Inn, a 300-year old pub owned by the National Trust.
But that's not the only attraction. Bretforton is a vibrant village with a host of amenities, attractions, clubs, societies, and events.

Facts & stats

Bretforton lies on the B4035 in the Vale of Evesham at the north edge of the Cotswolds, between Evesham and Chipping Campden. At the time of the 2011 census, Bretforton had a population of 1,052 in 460 households. But with new developments it's now close to 1,500 residents and 550 households.

The village has a Church, a village hall, a school, a pub, a theatre, a sports & social club, a garage, a community social club and a shop.

It's also home to Bretforton Silver Band, the last remaining village band in Worcestershire. In addition, the world famous Asparagus Auction, takes place in the village in May/June every year.

The Fleece Inn Bretforton

The historic Fleece Inn is a perfect rural retreat. A stone's throw from the Cotswolds, it boasts roaring open fires in winter, and a large orchard garden in summer. It's the hub for many village events throughout the year.

Bretforton Theatrebarn

The Theatrebarn is a hidden gem of a theatre. A unique theatre, founded some forty years ago with an opening performance by Academy Award winner, Dame Peggy Ashcroft, and housed in a magnificent medieval tithe barn.

St Leonard's Bretforton

Partially inspired by the decorations at Wells Cathedral, the Church of St Leonard Bretforton, is a Grade 1 listed parish church dating from 1295, with medieval and Victorian additions. It seats 140, and has a band of bell ringers and a flower guild.

Bretforton Silver Band

Bretforton Silver Band is the last remaining village band in Worcestershire. It can trace it's roots back to 1895 when it was known as Bretforton Temperance Band.

Bretforton Show

A traditional village Show which takes place on the second Saturday of September in the magnificent grounds of Bretforton Manor.

Sports & recreation

Bretforton is an active village on the sporting scene with thriving cricket, hockey, football, pool, darts and dominoes teams. Bretforton won the Wychavon Parish Games for the fourth year running in 2018 and were runners up in 2019. Bretforton Ladies Hockey Over 45's Squad were crowned National Champions for a second time in 2020.

Bretforton School & Pre School Playgroup

Bretforton Village School is a small, friendly school at the heart of the village community. Bretforton Pre School Playgroup is a popular playgroup run since 1981 at Bretforton Memorial Hall.
