Bretforton Community Shop's coronavirus efforts celebrated in charity campaign

Bretforton Community Shop's contribution to the local coronavirus response has been celebrated.
The Shop set up a telephone support service during lockdown to help those in need. A charity campaign by the Plunkett Foundation celebrating local community businesses, honoured the Shop and the efforts of its staff.

Bretforton Community Shop shares its lockdown story
The Shop told its story as part of the Plunkett Foundation's Community Business Fete. A lot of new volunteers were gained to fill new roles such as prescription collection and food delivery. Chris Buckham tells the story in this video - "it was a whole village effort with the Shop at the heart of it".

£1 million sales milestone reached

Bretforton Community Shop hit another milestone during the COVID-19 crisis, reaching £1 million pounds of sales during its lifetime. Thanks to all our customers who've supported us over the years and helped us get there.

The BBC's Midlands Today came to film at the Shop. We talked about the importance of rural shops during the COVID-19 crisis and the help we've had from the Plunkett Foundation who support community businesses like ours.
Commendation from Her Majesty's Representative
11th July 2020
The Shop had to react quickly and make some major changes during the COVID-19 pandemic. We lost most of our loyal volunteers who had to self-isolate. And we had to set up a system for taking and delivering orders from scratch, going from practically zero to eighty deliveries a week.
So we were surpised and delighted to receive a letter from the Her Majesty's Representative, the Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, who wrote to the Staff and Volunteers of Bretforton Community Shop.
He said "The innovation, collaboration, courage and selflessness shown by so many across the County during the COVID-19 pandemic has been truly inspirational and uplifting. As Her Majesty the Queen's representative, I would like to thank you for the wonderful contribution you have made to the County during these extraordinary and challenging times."

Bretforton Community Shop has made it to the finals of the Community Ownership Awards 2016, the only national awards programme recognising community co-operation around the UK.
